Why The Freedom School exists
It began with a simple, stubborn belief: that every young person deserves an education that helps them think for themselves.
Most schools were built for a different century. They reward memorizing over thinking, ranking over growth, and quiet compliance over real curiosity. Teenagers spend years learning things they’ll never use — and slowly lose touch with what makes them them.
We’re building something different. The Freedom School is a fully online high school where teens learn how to think, not what to think. We trade stress and conformity for curiosity and purpose, and we help young people free their minds from manipulation, conditioning and fear — so they can see the world clearly and shape it as it could be.
But we refuse the usual trade-off. Traditional schools choose structure and crush curiosity. Many alternative schools choose freedom and quietly leave gaps that close doors later. We protect a small, essential foundation — reading and writing well, real-world numeracy, clear thinking, the ability to learn anything, and understanding how money and the world work — and above it, your child is free. The foundation isn’t the cage around freedom; it’s the launchpad beneath it.

Every week, our students create something of their own — turning ideas into action and imagination into reality. That’s the magic we’re making on Earth: a generation who know how to think critically, live consciously, and lead with compassion.

Meet the founder
Hi, I’m Dahlia
I spent years as a public school teacher, and I left because I took education too seriously to keep teaching that way.
Every day I watched curious, capable, wildly different kids get handed the same material, at the same pace, measured by the same tests — and asked to prove their worth on questions most of them would never use again. When students asked me “when will we ever need this?”, I usually didn’t have an honest answer. I saw the system slowly dim the very thing school is supposed to protect: their interest in learning, and their belief in themselves.
So I built the school I couldn’t find. The Freedom School gives teens a guaranteed foundation — the real skills no one should leave without — and then the freedom to direct their own learning on top of it. Not memorization. Not one-size-fits-all. An education designed to set young minds free.
Today, alongside my Co-Founder & CEO, Dr. Alina Vehuni, I lead operations, curriculum delivery, and the day-to-day execution that turns our shared vision into a working school.

Meet the co-founder
Hi, I’m Alina
I’ve spent more than twenty years inside education — as a teacher, a school leader, and a trainer working with educators around the world. From every one of those vantage points, I kept arriving at the same truth: a young person learns, grows, and flourishes only when they feel whole. When a teenager is grounded in who they are — emotionally steady, self-aware, unafraid to be themselves — learning stops being a struggle and becomes their natural state.
That conviction became my life’s work. I founded Wholeness Education to put emotional fluency and identity at the center of how we raise young people, and I carried it onto stages and into institutions around the world — including consulting with school systems like LAUSD on how learning environments shape a child’s sense of self. Everywhere I went, the need was the same: we are teaching children what to know, and forgetting to help them become who they are.
But a keynote ends and a training finishes. I wanted to build a place where this wasn’t an idea people left inspired by, but the ground a whole school stood on — where wellbeing isn’t a workshop, but the foundation beneath everything a student does. When I met Dahlia, I found someone who had reached that same belief from the other side of the classroom. The Freedom School is where our two paths became one: a school built to help this generation grow up grounded, self-aware, and free.
