Why choose The Freedom School

Learning that’s active, personal and made for real life

We’ve designed a high school experience around how teenagers actually thrive — with curiosity, creativity and a community that cheers them on.

Student-centered learning

We start with your teen — their curiosity, their pace, their goals. Learning is shaped around the person, not squeezed into a one-size-fits-all timetable.

Project-based, every week

Students don’t just take notes. Every week they make something real — a business plan, a film, an experiment, an essay worth reading — and share it with others.

Collaborative & dialogue-rich

Small live classes where teens talk, question and think out loud together. Ideas get challenged. Voices get heard. Nobody hides at the back.

The difference

How we’re different from traditional school

Traditional school

  • Memorize facts for the test
  • One pace for thirty students
  • Stress, ranking and pressure
  • Sit still and listen
  • Subjects in separate boxes
  • Learning stops at the school gate

The Freedom School

  • Learn how to think for yourself
  • A path shaped around each learner
  • Purpose, calm and real motivation
  • Create, build and collaborate
  • Skills connected to real life
  • The whole world is the campus

Freedom within structure

We protect a small foundation. Above it, your child is free.

Traditional schools choose structure and crush curiosity. Many alternative schools choose freedom and quietly leave gaps that close doors later. We refuse the trade-off — we guarantee the capacities that keep every future open, and your child drives everything above them.

The foundation isn’t the cage around freedom. It’s the launchpad beneath it.

How we learn
  • Reading and writing well
  • Real-world numeracy
  • Clear, independent thinking
  • The ability to learn anything
  • Understanding how money and the world work

How it works

Learning happens in four modes

Not a timetable of periods — four ways of learning that grow with your child as they earn more autonomy.

Studios

Small, hands-on sessions that build the foundational capacities every young person needs.

Quests

Interest-driven, project-based deep-dives where your child chases what they love — and the academics come along for the ride.

Seminars

Real discussion and argument, where independent thinking gets sharpened against other minds.

Advisory

A consistent mentor who knows your child, coaches their learning, and helps them choose well.

Empowering learners to explore their interests, discover their innate talents and build practical skills

Who walks out at eighteen

Free, capable, and good

A young person who can think for themselves, learn anything, work with anyone, and act in the world with judgment and integrity — and ready to thrive without us. Every studio, quest, seminar and mentor exists to build that person.

See how we learn
  1. 10:00

    School starts gently

A later, kinder start. The day opens with a short gathering to set intentions and connect as a group.

  2. Morning

    Flexible live classes

Small, interactive sessions where students discuss ideas and learn by doing — never just by listening.

  3. Midday

    Recharging breaks

Real downtime to move, eat, step outside and let ideas settle. Wellbeing is built into the timetable.

  4. Afternoon

    Real-life projects

Students work on something of their own — solo or together — turning ideas into things they can show the world.

Dahlia, Founder of The Freedom School

The person behind the school

I spent years as a public school teacher, and I left because I took education too seriously to keep teaching that way. So I built the school I couldn’t find.

Who is The Freedom School for?

High-school-age teens (roughly ages 14–18) anywhere in the world. We’re a natural fit for homeschooling and worldschooling families who want something modern, warm and genuinely useful.

How does online learning actually work?

Students join small, live classes led by experienced educators, with flexible time around them to work on projects. It’s interactive and social — closer to a great seminar than a video playlist.

What will my teen actually learn?

We guarantee a small, essential foundation — reading and writing well, real-world numeracy, clear thinking, the ability to learn anything, and understanding how money and the world work. Everything above that, your teen drives: what they study, how deep they go, and what they build.

How does learning actually happen?

In four modes, not a timetable of periods: Studios (hands-on sessions that build the foundation), Quests (interest-driven projects your teen chooses), Seminars (real discussion and debate), and Advisory (a consistent mentor who knows your teen and coaches their learning).
